GlobalSource Partners’ Panama Country Analyst Marco Fernandez is one of the country’s leading economists and authorities on the country’s macro and financial dynamics. He has written extensively and is frequently sought by the press for his views on dollarization, labor and competitiveness issues and banking issues.
Dr. Fernandez is also a senior partner of the consulting firm INDESA and has had a distinguished career in both the public and private sectors. He was an Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Planning and he was Executive Director of the National Economic Council. Prior to that, Dr. Fernandez headed the National Banking Committee. He has also served on the board of directors of BNP-Paribas and as a director of Grupo Melo.
He received his bachelor’s degree in economics at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and his Ph.D. at the University of Manitoba in Canada. Since 1989, he has been Visiting Professor at INCAE Business School.
