Tisza is moving forward on all fronts

The war-hit pumping station of the Druzhba oil pipeline, which has been inactive since January 27, miraculously recovered just a few days after the election in Hungary. There is no connection between the two events, of course. Technical tests have reportedly started today and oil may start to flow towards Hungary already tomorrow. Outgoing PM Orbán indicated over the weekend that he is willing to give up his effective veto on the EU's €90bn loan to Ukraine if the continuous transit of Russian oil to Hungary is restored. Slovak PM Fico has spoken in a very similar way on the subject. Member countries' ambassadors to the EU are reportedly set to deal with this issue already tomorrow.Incoming head of government Mr. Magyar said that those top figures in legally independent jobs (President, Chief Attorney, Heads of the Supreme Court, the Constitutional Court, the State Audit Office, the Competition Board, etc.) who he called upon to resign voluntarily a few days ago, will have May 31 as the deadline to do so. Should they insist on staying, they will be removed by the new parliament, as Tisza will use its constitutional majority to mobilise all available legal means to achieve that objective. Mr. Magyar said these people have proven to be unfit and unworthy, for representing Fidesz' interest rather than doing their jobs to secure impartiality.The three parties of the new parliament have reached agreement on the structure of parliamentary committees and the distribution of positions in those. Tisza followed a moderately conciliatory attitude in this process, allowing Fidesz and Mi Hazánk somewhat more than the legal minimum requirement. President Sulyok is reportedly planning...
