The STF begins trial of Bolsonaro’s case, Lower House party leaders meet to vote on the week’s agenda, and the Senate may vote on two major bills

Today, the Supreme Federal Court begins the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven other defendants accused of attempting a coup d’état. This week, no justices are expected to cast their votes. In the Lower House, party leaders will meet to decide the week’s voting agenda. Lawmakers may consider the bill that expands the income tax exemption threshold and another that ends the deduction of union dues from National Social Security Institute (INSS) benefits. In the Senate, two major bills are on today’s agenda. One is Constitutional Amendment Proposal 66/2023, which limits the payment of court-ordered government debts (precatórios) by states and municipalities, and the other is a complementary bill targeting habitual tax evaders, with a particular focus on organized crime.
