At the PT's national convention held this Sunday (August 2) in São Paulo, the party officially launched President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's (PT) bid for reelection. Vice President Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) will once again serve as his running mate, recreating the ticket that won the 2022 election. One of the main expectations of the campaign centers on the presidential debates. The first is scheduled for August 23 and will be hosted by TV Bandeirantes. President Lula has not yet confirmed whether he will participate. The Central Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) is scheduled to meet on Tuesday and Wednesday (August 4–5) to decide Brazil's benchmark interest rate (Selic), which currently stands at 14.25% per year.
