Yesterday, a voting-intention poll showed Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) numerically ahead of Lula (PT) in a runoff, with 46% to 45%, according to Nexus/BTG Pactual. The erosion in support is not driven solely by the institutional issues surrounding the crisis at the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The economy is also taking a toll. Supreme Court Chief Justice Edson Fachin gave Justice André Mendonça 72 hours to respond to a request filed by the Office of the Solicitor General (AGU) challenging the removal of Federal Police Director General Andrei Rodrigues and the agency's Director of Police Intelligence, Leandro Almada da Costa. Edson Fachin is considering taking over as rapporteur for the cases involving Banco Master and the fraud related to unauthorized deductions from benefits paid by Brazil's National Social Security Institute (INSS), which are currently under Justice André Mendonça's jurisdiction.
