Yesterday, Band hosted the first debate among the candidates for president of Brazil. Only three candidates participated: Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), Renan Santos (Missão), and Augusto Cury (Avante). Lula is expected to avoid debates during the first round. Free electoral advertising on radio and television begins on Friday (August 28) and runs through October 1. If there is a runoff, free electoral advertising will return to radio and television from October 9 through October 23. Several polls will be released throughout the week. A Nexus/BTG Pactual poll was released today, showing President Lula in a statistical tie in hypothetical runoff scenarios against Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) and former Goiás Governor Ronaldo Caiado (PSD).
