Peru: Keiko Fujimori is officially the winner of the runoff

Last night, Oficina Nacional de Procesos Electorales (ONPE, the office responsible for organizing the elections) and Jurado Nacional de Elecciones (JNE, the national electoral jury) finished the tally of 100% of the runoff votes, including those contested and confirmed that Keiko Fujimori (KF) from Fuerza Popular (FP) won the June 7th election by 49,641 votes. She got 9,223,396 votes and his opponent, Roberto Sánchez (RS) from Juntos por el Perú (JPP) 9,173,755. JNE's president Roberto Burneo had said a few days back that on July 3rd will declare the winner of the contest, on July 15th will grant official president credentials, and on July 28th will take oath in the Parliament. Nevertheless, RS last night kept insisting that there have been irregularities in the runoff election process. He had submitted a demand for fraud in JNE and a JNE plenary considered his demands and concluded that there was no evidence of fraud. Last night, when a journalist asked him if he would recognize KF as the next president, he insisted on the irregularities and propose KF a full recount. He said that would resort to international courts, but so far we haven't seen any international demands and the Constitution fully empowers ONPE and JNE in electoral process and we believe that their is no way back. The side effect of RS reluctance to accept the results has been the gradual dissolution of his coalition as other parties and personalities supporting him have acknowledged KF’s victory.
