The appointment of the Attorney General, Jorge Messias, to the Supreme Federal Court (STF) is facing strong resistance in the Federal Senate. The President of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União–AP), had been advocating for Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD–MG) for the vacancy. The Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE) will resume discussions on Tuesday, December 2, of the bill regulating the taxation of betting companies and fintechs. The rapporteur, Senator Eduardo Braga (MDB–AM), is reviewing a proposal originally authored by Senator Renan Calheiros (MDB–AL). Senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB–SE), rapporteur for the Anti-Faction Bill, is expected to present his report in the Senate’s CCJ on Wednesday, December 3.
