President Lula remains firmly focused on measures aimed at improving his approval ratings. Yesterday, two new initiatives were announced. The federal government launched the “Brazil Against Organized Crime” program. Lula also signed a provisional measure eliminating the so-called “clothing tax,” the 20% levy on imported goods worth up to US$50. The government’s leader in Congress, Senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), stated that the Public Security Constitutional Amendment Proposal (PEC 18/25) is expected to move forward next week.
