Yesterday, August 14, Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes requested that Justice Cristiano Zanin, president of the Court’s First Panel, set a trial date for former President Jair Bolsonaro and other defendants accused of participating in an attempted coup following the 2022 elections. The trial is expected to take place in September. Lower House President Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB) said yesterday that the bill (PL 1087/25) granting an income tax exemption to individuals earning up to R$ 5,000 could go to the floor in the coming days. Next week will bring another electoral realignment for the 2026 race: União Brasil and the Progressive Party (PP) are expected to formalize the União Progressista party federation.
