President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has appointed Congressman José Guimarães as Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations. He replaces Gleisi Hoffmann, who will return to her seat in the Lower House. Regarding the end of the 6x1 work schedule, Lula stated yesterday that he intends to submit a bill this week under urgent constitutional status to abolish the system. Two new presidential polls are set to be released today—one by CNT/MDA and another by Instituto Futura. The government hopes that an improvement in approval ratings will translate into stronger voting intention numbers for Lula.
