Flavio Bolsonaro has announced Federal Congressman Alfredo Gaspar (PL-AL) as his running mate. Gaspar is from Brazil's Northeast and served as the rapporteur of the congressional inquiry into the INSS scandal. Yesterday, President Lula (PT) argued that the government should find an alternative to lower interest rates in order to curb inflation and expand the country's investment capacity. According to the president, the largest expenditure in Brazil's public accounts is interest payments on the national debt. Next week, Congress will hold a concentrated voting session, but the prospects for advancing Senate consideration of government-backed bills—including legislation on ending the 6x1 work schedule, the critical minerals bill, and the Redata proposal—remain uncertain, with little expectation of progress in the short term.
