Turkish politics entered the Twilight Zone after a brief experiment with “normalization”, which is a wind of fresh breath for Yours Truly, who has become a crisis junkie long time ago. Just like the good old days, each new dawn brings fresh shocks, most of which contradict the main developments of the day before. Exactly one week after MHP leader Bahceli endorsed Erdogan’s presidential bid, the latter declared in his 10th of November speech (Commemorating the passing of Ataturk) that he shall serve his nation as long as Allah gives him life and the nation elects him. Currently, AKP-MHP are employing full court defense on Kurds to persuade PKK to disarm and DEM to vote for a new constitution. I’m firmly of the opinion that this attempt is futile. Sooner or later Erdogan will have to bargain with CHP leader Ozgur Ozel about a date for early elections, acceptable to both. Erdogan also heralded that soon Turkey will complete the buffer zone around her borders to avert terror attacks. The idea of a “cordon sanitaire” stretching from Iraq’s Iran border to the Mediterranean Coast of Syria has been long in planning, with several Syrian border cantons already being brought under the control of Turkish...
