All eyes on CHP, MTP and CBRT

The month of September will be action filled. In his first essay, the politics author tries to explain the deep web of traps the Erdogan-controlled legal system weaved for CHP, which is very difficult to recap in an executive summary. It suffices to say though that there are at least 8 lawsuits involving CHP and/or its members, the verdicts of which will determine whether the party can live on or remain united. In October, indictments against the arrested CHP mayors will be rolled out.

In a second essay, he concludes that the “Peace Commission” is on its deathbed, largely because not only Kurds, but the Druze and Alawites in Syria now demand a federal state. Ankara already threatened Syrian Kurds with military action. Even without the difficulties of Syria, however, the AKP-MHP and DEM-CHP camps in the commission are deeply divided about its mission.

Manufacturing PMI picked up tangibly in August, though it remained below the 50-mark and the July-August average points to a weaker overall reading than in Q2.
